"Our friendship is stronger than all else because we’re breathing the same air, speaking the same thoughts, and living one dream."
Many of us dream of success. And we work hard most of lives trying to achieve that level of success we crave. While all of our journeys to success are different, there are so many important lessons we can learn from those that lead successful lives already. Lessons that may help us make right decisions, avoid certain mistakes, and taking some calculated risks.
In this blog, I hope to share the stores of someone I consider my Hero. A person that worked really hard to obtain success before he is 30. This blog will serve as a tribute to his continuous strive to lead a successful life, and how he made his dream a reality. Each post will document a useful lesson I learned from him, how that lesson serves to make me a better person striving for my own success, as well as one of my own original paintings to portray the main message of the story. If nothing more, for those who decide to take the time to read my blog, I hope to share with you the story of boy who truly made his dream a reality.
In our childhood, many of us have been asked what do we want to be when we grow up. The answers range from football player, therapist, doctor, and even the president. These most often what we aspire to become, and title we get when we believe ourselves to be successful.
In many cases, the person we want to become changes as we grow up and our values solidify. I remember I wanted to be an actress, because I loved the fact that it gives me an opportunity to live a different life. However, as I finished my undergraduate degree in International Business, I dream of becoming the CEO one day. I want to be a leader that can have a wide impact on people. While that seems like a far stretched goal at this point, I know it is possible. Because when we have a dream we want to achieve, everything that is in our way as obstacles will become insignificant. I learned this much from my Hero.
Hero was once just an ordinary boy with a dream to become a singer. Which was at a point almost impossible to achieve due to some simple factors I will explain in detail in future posts. However, before he is 30 years old, he has won numerous awards and broke many records in the music industry. He really is the living proof that dreams can come true. It was not easy, but he made it happen.
Even though success means something different to all of us, one lesson that can be applied is that once we surround ourselves with people who share our dream, we have the path with the least resistance.
For Hero, he was lucky in becoming part of a band with 4 other amazing members that shared one dream of becoming successful singers. They worked hard together and finally achieved their goals. At this point in time, they hold the Guinness world record for the number of registered fans in the world. They were also able to achieve numerous break throughs in foreign markets. There were many tough battles, but because they shared the same dream, they became each others' support in finally making it.
I learned the hard way how important it is to work with people that share the same goals. Soon after graduation, I was ready to begin my career with the world's largest retailer. I thought getting some experience in store operations will give me a better understanding of the company, so I took the job as an assistant manager of a large supercenter. This was a tough market with the store being in the backyard of the corporate office, so we constantly receive visits from upper management team of our company and many of the vendors. We were also the training store, so lots of associates around the world come to our store to learn how to do things the right way for the company as they advance in their career.
With the added stress, it was even more important for our store to follow the process put in place. Everyone in the store, including all the associates in 3 different shifts, needed to work together in order to make things run smoothly. Many times we are only focused in our own tasks with our own goals for success in our career, and forget about helping each other. This hindered the progress because we lost vision of the goal for the entire store. Many of us didn't understand how one weak link in the chain could ultimately have a negative impact on how we are able to excel at our on jobs. The only way we were really able to deliver exceptional results is when we all work together to make the store a better place.
This also proved true when I started the application process for MBA programs. I had a horrible time studying for GMAT. Because face it, studying is rarely fun. Then I was able to find some friends who were also applying to graduate school and we studied together. Regardless of the program we were applying to, because we have to face that common battle with the GMAT, we were able to able to motivate each other to continue studying and ultimately achieve the results we wanted.
So while we all may have our different dreams, if we align ourselves with people who share the same dream, we can help each other succeed. We can make the impossible possible. And let dreams become reality.
